Canada’s metabolomics company Chenomx Inc. and Spain’s Centre for Omic Sciences to collaborate on metabolomics consulting projects

(Dec. 5, 2012, Tarragona, Spain, and Edmonton, Canada) Chenomx Inc. and Spain’s Centre for Omic Sciences announced today that they will collaborate on NMR-based metabolomics services serving the European health sciences research community. Utilizing the expertise from both partners, this collaboration offers a robust research platform for European researchers.
“Chenomx offers high quality profiling software for NMR-based metabolomics,” says Xavier Correig, principal investigator at the COS. “The software is accepted by a wide range of researchers world-wide. We have used the software for a number of years and have confidence in it for metabolomics projects.”
NMR-based Metabolomics is a part of the integrated biology workflow available at COS. Quantitative measurements using NMR is a key component of the research process to help discover new mechanisms of metabolism as affected by disease, drugs, and nutrition.
“Our goal at Chenomx is to help clients use metabolomics to make important biological discoveries,” said Neil Taylor, president of Chenomx. “By standardizing the methods of measurement, our methods take out some of the guesswork for platform configuration and allow the researchers to focus on those biological discoveries. A location in Europe to support our clients will offer attractive services options for them.”
COS will perform its collaborative research programs and services with the Technological Centre of Nutrition and Health and with private companies and research groups that take a special interest in the fields of diabetes and metabolic diseases, nutrition and health, and other biomedical research areas.

About Centre for Omic Sciences

The Centre for Omic Sciences, or COS, was established by the Rovira i Virgili University, in collaboration with the Technological Centre of Nutrition and Health. COS opened in September 2012. The scientific leaders of COS have research experience with metabolomics and have been actively using Chenomx analysis methods since 2009 at the Rovira i Vigili University. COS has available high throughput, high field NMR spectrometers supported by trained and skilled scientists.
